Hraban the Marcomanni has been cast out of his tribe by his treacherous father Maroboodus. He has lost his tribe, his mother and both grandfathers, and his fame and honor with the ones he loved. He has been lied to, he has been used to further his father’s plots and in the end discarded, and his lot was to linger in slavery to Odo, a priest to Lok until he would die, having fulfilled the needs of a deadly prophecy.
However, he refused to die.
Instead, he escaped Odo and the Roman ally king, Vago the Vangione, and took the head of his mother’s slayer. Now, he will go home. He will go home to burn his father’s hall for revenge, and to erase the blot on his fame, the title of the Oath Breaker, by deeds of bravery and spears. He has much to pay back for, his friends to rescue and his fame to regain.
Yet, his allies are few and none come without a price. In the end, Hraban will find the road to regaining his fame is twisted and tricky, and what he will find might be entirely different from what he set out to gain.
Raven Wyrd A Novel of Germania and Rome Hraban Chronicles Book 2 edition by Alaric Longward Literature Fiction eBooks
I had read the first book in the series--The Hraban Chronicles. Although it was dizzying with it's voluminous cast of characters and never ending double crosses (no one has any honor or honors any oaths)--it was interesting enough that I ordered Book Two as soon as it was available. It arrived not long after finishing Book One--so I began it immediately so as to not lose who was who amongst the plethora of characters.Diving in, I was pleased and disappointed. Pleased in that there was a good story going on. Disappointed in that the story was being buried by the never ending concentration/conversation/discussion on "The Prophecy" and what the Gods would do or not do--this overwhelmed the story and became boring in extreme--I was just about to give up--when, The Romans became involved. At this point--the book gets back on track and becomes what it should be--a crackling good story with a hint of historical backround. The ending was great and combined with the authors' follow-up--I am truly looking forward to the third book.
At the end of the day--that is the best recommendation anyone can give--you'll spend your hard earned money on the next chapter

Raven Wyrd A Novel of Germania and Rome Hraban Chronicles Book 2 edition by Alaric Longward Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I am very involved in this new series and cannot wait for my next installment. I've always been an Anglophile in my readings but I find that this Germanic based theme is most interesting and squares with my historic knowledge of the time. Thanks, Alaric...and PLEASE keep theme coming!
I really liked seeing how the main character grows and rebels in this book. Great story telling and deep characters.
Mr Longward has absolutely hit his stride telling a story in his first person style. I had to push through a bit on Adalwulf and in OathBreaker, but I found myself devouring Ravens Wyrd. Fantastic story with excellent use of history and intruiging characters. I am burning through the third book now and cant wait for the fourth. LOVE THESE BOOKS!
Top notch. I am mostly a non-fiction reader who has 30 different books going at a time. I havent touched another book since starting the first book of this series. The amount of work Mr. Longward has put out in such a short time is mind blowing. Especailly considering the quality and detial of his work. I thoroughly appreciate the love you pour into your work. Props, Alaric Longward.
I have always been astounded by Rome's ability to dominate the majority of the conflicts in which they were involved.Few historical novels have been written concerning the Germanic campaigns and this book offers a glimpse of the ferocity and hate that made it so all consuming.Combine that with a man's desperate struggle to do " the right thing " and you find yourself pulling for him to succeed. The plots are intricate, the battles grim, and the stakes are high.If you enjoy history with a twist this is a great series..
Raven's Wyrd is book two of the Hraban Chronicles. It's a historical fiction novel that follows Hraban the Marcomanni. Hraban has had all the odds against him in his life, from the loss of several family members, being cast out of his own tribe and was used time and time again by his father's schemes. He refuses to let this ruin his life, and goes out to seek redemption--for his mother, for himself. I loved following Hraban's struggles and triumphs. Overall, a really great, face paced read.
I bought all three books and have now read the first two. I read a lot of Roman fiction and these stories held up well. Hraban is an appealing character as he tells the story of his history as an old man. There is lots of fighting, plotting, and betrayals. Hraban makes one mistake after another, trusting the wrong people, but manages to pull through and recover his honor in this book. The way the Germani and the Romans are portrayed feels right. The action is fast and furious. The dialog is good. I had no trouble following the plot although the list of characters at the beginning was helpful. The history is reasonably accurate and the author explains where he has changed things and why. There were an unfortunate number of editing errors but the story is good enough that I read right past them. Highly recommended for readers of Rome or adventure fiction that don't mind a generous helping of blood.
